It’s a baffling question isn’t it? Everyone has their own answers but really, is there something different between them? Yes there is. The answer is “Clarity”. When you are clear of what you want, you will be focused and determined. And because you have a clear goal (no longer a dream!) you will know what it takes to reach there!
Successful people are clear in what they want, and knowing how to achieve it. They set up plans on how to achieve their dreams, turning them to reality. Others have dreams, because their dreams are vague and they don’t take any action to make it happen. Let’s say you are running a restaurant business and I ask you this “What’s your dream in this business?”And if your answer is “I want to make a lot more money!”, then you will never succeed. What you have said does not give you the clarity and vision to take further actions to “make a lot of money!” So “How much is a lot?”
A successful business man will probably answer something more specific. “I want to expand my restaurant business by opening two more outlets in a year’s time and gaining an annual combined profit of more than $100,000.” Does this give more clarity? Does this allow you to draw up plans to achieve it? Yes it does! You will be able to draw up plans to expand your business, sourcing for new places and hiring more workers and eventually getting profitable.
Having a clear vision of your dream may not be enough, write it down somewhere and paste it on your wall or use it as your desktop background, that way you are constantly seeing your dream and reminding yourself everyday of what you want to achieve. Do write something as specific as possible, and also include ways to achieve it. Here is an example:
What’s your dream: “I want to be the top 10% salesperson in my company by the end of the year”
What do you plan to do to achieve that? “I need to call up at least 15 customers everyday and make at least 10 sales per day” “I will follow-up with my customers after sales so that they will come back and do more sales with me”
Can you see the clarity and ways to turn your dreams to reality? I bet you have the clarity that will take you to the next level of success!
